GUST Library Celebrates Dr. Ayman Bakr’s Scholarly Publication
On Monday, May 13, 2024, the GUST Library at the Gulf University for Science
and Technology hosted a momentous event to honor Dr. Ayman Bakr, a
distinguished scholar in literature, criticism, and cultural studies. The
book launch event conducted by Library Manager J'Amy McCracken, created an enriching
environment for profound discussions and literary exploration.
Dr.
Bakr presented his award-winning publication, “Ritualism,
Narrativity, and Hyperbole: Towards a Theory of Modern Arabic Poetry.” The
book, which received the Sharjah Award for Poetry Criticism in 2021, researches
details of modern Arabic poetry.
Dr. Bakr
conducted a comprehensive structural analysis of the medieval narrative work
“Maqamat” by Badi‘ al-Zaman al-Hamadhani in his MA thesis. Published in 1998,
this thesis has become a cornerstone for scholars in the field of classical
Arabic prose. Notably, the thesis recognized and published by the Ministry of
Culture in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
Moreover, Dr.
Bakr actively contributes to the field of modern and contemporary Arabic
literature. His research work and conference contributions span various Arab
countries, including Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan, Syria, Bahrain, Saudi
Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
Attendees also had the opportunity to engage with Dr. Ali Al-Enzi, former
Dean of the Theatrical Arts College in Kuwait, who served as the discussant.
Dr. Al-Enzi shared his insights on Dr. Bakr’s work.
The event concluded with a book signing by Dr. Bakr.
