GUST Library Hosts Book Launch Ceremony
The Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) Library recently hosted a celebration honoring two remarkable literary achievements. The event commenced with a cordial introduction by Senior Library Manager J’Amy McCracken, who underscored the library’s dedication to promoting creativity and academic advancement within the university community.
The event's focal point was the unveiling of Gulf Women’s Lives: Voice, Space, Place, a collaborative project exploring how Gulf women negotiate spaces of dissent through their writing. The book delves into women’s narratives, examining how they construct their identities as gendered individuals and authors, engage with public and private spaces, and assert voice and agency in various spheres. Among its contributors is GUST’s own Dr. Shahd Alshammari, renowned for her work in Disability Studies, autoethnography, and women’s illness narratives.
The event also celebrated was Dictionary of Life, a unique manuscript compiled in alphabetical sequence, with each student contributing reflections inspired by one letter of the alphabet. Originating from Dr. Alshammari’s literature course, this creative project uses words to capture the essence of life and its defining moments.
Library manager McCracken extended particular recognition in her welcome note to Prof. Bassam ,Alameddine, President of GUST, for his visionary leadership and unwavering support of initiatives that promote creativity and knowledge. His dedication to motivating both students and teachers ensures that GUST continues to be a model of innovation and success.
In her speech, Mrs. McCracken expressed her delight in the accomplishments of GUST’s students and teachers, asserting, “We here at GUST celebrate and motivate every achievement of our community, specially students.” Special appreciation was extended to Mrs. Salma Soud, founder of Dar Salma Publishing, for supporting student creativity, as well as Dr. Asmaa Alduhaim, Head of the English Department, and Prof. Bashar Ibrahim, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, for their encouragement and support.
Mrs. McCracken shared her pride in the achievements of GUST’s students and faculty, stating, “At GUST, we celebrate and motivate every accomplishment within our community, especially those of our students.”
The ceremony underscored the library’s role as a vibrant hub for intellectual and creative pursuits, fostering an environment where achievements are celebrated and talents are nurtured. It concluded with a book signing session and the exchange of gifts between GUST and the publisher.
