The aim of ROAR is to promote the development of open access by providing timely information about the growth and status of repositories throughout the world. Open access to research maximizes research access and thereby also research impact, making research more productive and effective.
The National Archives
The National Archives is the official archive and publisher for the UK government, and for England and Wales. They are the guardians of some of the most iconic national documents, dating back over 1,000 years.The National Archives' collection of over 11 million historical government and public records is one of the largest in the world.

The Archive of European Integration (AEI) is an electronic repository and archive for research materials on the topic of European integration and unification. The AEI collects two types of materials: certain types of independently-produced research materials and official European Community/European Union documents.

Confederation of Open Access Repositories
The Confederation of Open Access Repositories (COAR), is an association of repository initiatives launched in October 2009, uniting and representing 90 institutions worldwide (Europe, Latin America, Asia, and North America). Its mission is to enhance greater visibility and application of research outputs through global networks of Open Access digital repositories.
EconBiz
EconBiz is a joint project of the German National Library of Economics (ZBW) and the University and City Library of Cologne (USB Koln). EconBiz offers search engines including important German and international databases for economics and business studies, access to full texts on the Internet, calendar of events in economics and business studies, the reference service EconDesk which supports searching for information in economics and business studies.
EconStor
EconStor provides a basis for the free publication of academic literature in economics. Any research facility and any scholar may publish and permanently preserve relevant publications in economics on EconStor under the terms of Open Access.
HathiTrust digital library
Over 11 million scanned items, all described by precise metadata, are currently in the HathiTrust (one word) database. About 66% of the items in the HathiTrust catalog are copyrighted; 34% are in the public domain. The copyrighted items are generally inaccessible, even to institutions associated with the project. 48% of the catalog's items are in English, although 400 languages are represented. As explained on its Web site: the Trust is "a partnership of major research institutions and libraries working to ensure that the cultural record is preserved and accessible long into the future" (Hathi is the Hindi word for elephant - and an elephant NEVER forgets!) and their mission is "to contribute to the common good by collecting, organizing, preserving, communicating, and sharing the record of human knowledge." 90 research institutions and libraries are partners (as of April 2014).
Open Archives Initiative
The Open Archives Initiative develops and promotes interoperability standards that aim to facilitate the efficient dissemination of content. OAI has its roots in the open access and institutional repository movements.
OpenDOAR
The OpenDOAR service provides a quality-assured listing of open access repositories around the world. OpenDOAR staff harvest and assign metadata to allow categorisation and analysis to assist the wider use and exploitation of repositories. Each of the repositories has been visited by OpenDOAR staff to ensure a high degree of quality and consistency in the information provided.
